Booking
The Subdued Stringband Jamboree presents local, regional and national bands/musicians to a family audience on a grassy hill in Whatcom County.
The bands we book are:
LOCAL:
80% of the bands we book are local (Whatcom and Skagit county). One of the goals of the festival is to provide a venue and a meeting place for area musicians. However, we do invite regional and national acts to come and join us for the weekend.
In the past we’ve had John Reishman(B.C.), Shickly Gnarowitz (OR), Louis Ledford (VA) Del Ray & Steve James (WA/TX) |
ACOUSTIC:
There is a focus on acoustic music but there is no hard rule. Every year there are some bands with drums and electric guitars. There is only one rule, no keyboards. Why? They sound bad. We will provide a piano. Up until 20 years ago
It was expected to have a piano at every venue. Now, everyone has gotten lazy and plays a synthesizer. We’ll have a piano tuned and available. |
ROOTS:
The bands we book are ones working in roots tradition.
For some, this is very specific, for others it’s looser. We aim to bring together the old the new. Some of the bands we book play a timeless style of music, others play music colored by the sounds of our times. Some of the genre’s we’ve booked are
Old-timey, songwriter, bluegrass, klezmer, honky-tonk, gypsy-jazz, country, and irish. |
